How to Lock a Ballot Drop Box
Unfortunately, vote tampering has long been an issue in elections. From middle school elections to homecoming queen contests, people often wish to skew election results in their favor. To maintain the integrity of any voting process, the ballot box must be secure. If you're holding an election of any sort, you must properly lock the ballot drop box to ensure that no votes are removed.

1
Choose a ballot drop box with locking capabilities. Most ballot boxes feature a slit in the top where people can drop their votes as well as a hinged clasp. If the box doesn't feature a clasp, you'll have difficulty locking it.
-
2
Acquire a sturdy lock, preferably one that requires a key. If you opt for a combination lock, memorize the combination and then shred the paper that it came on. You don't want anyone finding the combination and breaking into the ballot box as a result.

3
Close the lid of the ballot drop box and snap the hinge down.

4
Insert the lock through the lock clasp and secure it there. Check the lock to ensure it is securely locked prior to leaving the ballot drop box.

5
Choose a metal ballot box over a plastic one. Since plastic and acrylic ballot boxes can be easily broken, a metal box will be more secure.

Tips & Warnings
You can also find ballot drop boxes with built-in, inset locks in their lids.
Avoid voter fraud by requiring voters to list their name on their ballot. This ensures that each individual can only vote once.
