Instructions

    • 1

Choose a theme for each basket. Each basket should be created around a theme that corresponds with its recipient's likes, tastes or hobbies. If nothing immediately comes to mind, sit down and write a paragraph about the recipient. Some theme ideas include coffee or tea, cooking or baking, gardening and movie trivia.

    • 2

Shop for unique baskets or other containers. By having a theme in mind for each recipient, you can choose a suitable container. Look at dollar stores, thrift stores, yard sales and even your own attic or garage. Some fun container ideas include a small suitcase, flower pots, crates and teapots.

    • 3

Set a budget for each recipient. This way, you can go shopping for items to fill each container and know when to stop. Otherwise it is very easy to get carried away and spend more than you would on a big store-bought gift.

    • 4

Fill the bottom of each container with some type of filler. It can be packaging peanuts, crumpled or shredded paper, or whatever you have lying around. This will bulk up the appearance of the basket.

    • 5

Arrange the items in the basket with the larger gifts toward the back and the smallest in front. Set the container on a piece of cellophane large enough to wrap it. Gather the cellophane and tie it near the top with ribbon, raffia or a bow. Use clear tape to close any gaps or openings in the cellophane.

Tips & Warnings

  • Attach a gift tag near the bow, but tuck one inside as well. This way if it happens to fall off, it will still go to the correct recipient.
