Step 1
Write down your ideas.Start by sitting down and brainstorming. Write down the ideas that you come up with. Focus on the basics: who is your audience? What topics will you be addressing? What are important things to include in the newsletter?
-
Step 2
Choose a newsletter program.Decide how you are going to create your newsletter. You can use programs like Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher, if they are available, or Adobe Photoshop if you have experience with it.
-
Step 3
Choose a size and layout.Choose a page size and layout. Keep in mind, a large size may give you more space, but may also make your newsletter more expensive to print. Also, large sizes may not fit in standard sized envelopes. Choose a layout that works best for you. If you will only have two large articles, a front and back, unfolded layout may be good for you. For many smaller articles, a tri-fold layout may be ideal.
-
Step 4
This is great for a music article.Choose the final topics that you want to write about. Then, choose graphics to go along with those topics. Choose images that go well together to create a cohesive look. You may want to choose all cartoons, all photos of people, all color or all black and white images. Or, you may want to choose different image styles for each article to give the sections their own unique looks.
-
Step 5
Start typing!Write in your headlines. See where each article can be placed. Move the headlines around as necessary until you are happy with the order of your articles.
-
Step 6
Share research responsibilities.Do any necessary research to make sure your articles will have correct information. Always research well before moving forward. Ask a coworker for research help, if necessary, so you can compare and share ideas.
-
Step 7
Type up your articles.Type up your articles. Make sure that they fit well into the space provided. You can feature different font sizes for different articles, but make sure that the font does not become so small that it is unreadable. Also be aware of spacing: large spacing may look strange, and not enough spacing will make your articles crowded and hard to read.
-
Step 8
A second opinion is helpful.Proofread your newsletter. Then, give it to a coworker to read over as well. This way you can ensure that your grammar and facts are correct.
-
Step 9
Give everyone a copy.Print your newsletter and distribute as appropriate. Ask for feedback from those who read the newsletter. Constructive criticism and praise will help you create an even better newsletter next time.

on 12/12/2008 Excellent tips - I would also recommend looking at other newsletters or templates to get a better idea of layout and design, and how fillers are used. Thanks for sharing!
