Instructions

    • 1

Pour the bag of semisweet chocolate chips into the double boiler and melt. The chocolate can be melted in a shallow bowl in the microwave if you don't have a double boiler. You can also improvise by using two pots; one pot to boil the water and a smaller pot placed inside of the first pot to melt the chocolate. Melt the chocolate on low heat and stir constantly or the chocolate might scorch.

    • 2

Add the corn syrup to the melted chocolate and mix. Stir with the rubber spatula until the chocolate mixture becomes thick and forms a ball. Pour it onto the wax paper and, with either your fingers or the spatula, spread it out until it is about a half-inch thick. Place a sheet of wax paper over the chocolate clay and let it set up for a couple of hours.

    • 3

Pull off a piece of the chocolate clay and knead it until softened and pliable. Roll the dough into 12 marble size balls and set about 1 inch apart on a piece of wax paper. The size of the balls is what determines how big or small the rose will be.

    • 4

Put another sheet of wax paper on top of the balls of chocolate clay. Flatten each of the balls with your thumb until they are flat and the size of a quarter.

    • 5

Take one of the flattened pieces and shape it into a cone with the top thin and the bottom wide. This is the center of the rose. Take another flat piece and wrap it around the opening of the cone. You now have the first petal.

    • 6

Wrap another petal around the back of the cone. Place a third petal in between the front and back petals, setting it slightly lower than the other two. Continue to wrap petals around the center until the rose is the size you wanted. Bend the tips of the petals down to look more realistic.

Tips & Warnings

  • The chocolate dough may become tacky or sticky if worked with too long. If this happens just let it set in a cool place for a few minutes until it stiffens back up.
