How to Use the Library in Dominion

Dominion is a card game that entails a great deal of hand management. Although there are many ways to draw cards, none is as potentially powerful as using the Library. The Library lets you fill your hand to seven cards, regardless of how many you are currently holding. As you might imagine, this can quickly give you many strong playing options.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your deck for the Library by purchasing cards that grant you actions, such as Village, Festival and Cellar. Having these in your hand will help you play the multitude of cards a Library deck will provide you with.

    • 2

Buy the Chapel and/or Remodel if possible, and eliminate all of your Estates from the deck. This will prevent useless cards from clogging your hand when you do your big draw.

    • 3

Buy the Woodcutter or Market to give you extra buy actions. This will be important with the Library, because you may end up with more money than you can use.

    • 4

Upgrade your Copper to Silver or Gold, to make sure the treasure you draw will be worth as much as possible.

    • 5

Play the Village and then other action cards (like Woodcutter) to empty out your hand. Save at least one action for the Library.

    • 6

Once your hand is as small as you can make it, play the Library and draw back up to seven cards. You can opt to immediately discard all action cards drawn this way and increase the chances of drawing treasure, which is a good idea if you managed to play a Woodcutter for an extra buy.

    • 7

Use your giant hand of money to purchase whatever you want.

Tips & Warnings

  • Play the Library to recover from being attacked by the Militia.

  • If you don't have much treasure in your deck, you may draw a hand full of useless cards.
