If you live in New Hampshire, there are plenty of organizations to which you can donate your used furniture. Thrift stores are generally happy to accept furniture donations, provided they deal in larger items. You can also donate furniture to non-profit or charity organizations that will give the furniture to needy families. In addition to helping those less fortunate, you can also get a nice tax deduction for your furniture donation.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Confirm that your furniture is in acceptable donation condition. All pieces should be functional, and free of stains and tears.

  2. Step 2

Contact The Women's Fund of New Hampshire regarding your furniture donation. While they assess each donation on a personal basis, they do regularly accept furniture. They readily accept donations year-round.

  3. Step 3

Find a homeless shelter in your area via the New Hampshire Coalition to End Homelessness website (see Resources below). Homeless shelters regularly accept furniture donations for use in their facilities. Contact the facility closest to you regarding your donation.

  4. Step 4

Use Help1Up's tool to find furniture banks in your county. With furniture banks throughout New Hampshire, Help1Up will match you with one near your location. The furniture donated is given to needy families.

  5. Step 5

Take your furniture to Goodwill or The Salvation Army. These national charities have thrift stores throughout New Hampshire. Donated items are sold and the money is used to fund the charities.

  6. Step 6

Call local churches and schools. They often accept furniture donations for use in their facilities. Theater departments can often use furniture as set pieces in their theatrical productions.

  7. Step 7

Obtain a receipt for your furniture donation. You need the receipt to legitimately take the tax deduction from your donation. Make sure the receipt lists your name, address, the value of your donation, the charity's name and their tax ID number.

Tips & Warnings
  • Write down a brief description of each furniture piece you donated. You can then store this list with your tax documents.
  • Beware of sham charities. Confirm a charity's validity prior to donating.
