Step 1
Make sure you have a proper diagnosis of mesothelioma before trying to locate an attorney. Have medical documentation from at least two different doctors, preferably oncologists, that agree on the diagnosis of mesothelioma. Most mesothelioma attorneys will not take the case until you have the medical proof you have this form of cancer.
-
Step 2
Search locally for a mesothelioma attorney. Talk with the doctors that diagnosed the mesothelioma. If you are a part of a mesothelioma support group, talk with other members about the mesothelioma attorneys they are using. Call you local Bar Association, Better Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce to find a mesothelioma attorney. Many areas have a referral service that can help you find a mesothelioma attorney locally. Your local phone book may also have specific listings for mesothelioma attorneys. Of course, the internet is another resource you can use to when trying to locate a mesothelioma attorney.
-
Step 3
Research the local mesothelioma attorney’s win/lose ratio. You also need to know how many cases the mesothelioma attorney settled out of court and the amount of the settlement the client received. Make sure those settlements covered all the costs of treatment, lost wages as well a punitive damages. You will want to hire a mesothelioma that wins the cases and get the necessary compensation for the mesothelioma patients they represent. Court records are usually public knowledge and this information should be obtained easily.
-
Step 4
Search for a nationally-known mesothelioma attorney. These mesothelioma attorneys, generally, will have more experience dealing with mesothelioma causes than local attorneys. Do the same research as you did with local mesothelioma attorneys to make sure you find a lawyer that wins the mesothelioma cases and gets their clients the compensation they deserve.
-
Step 5
Speak with several mesothelioma attorneys. Make sure the mesothelioma attorneys understands your needs and is willing to do all legally possibly to meet those needs. Make sure your expectations are reasonable and can be legally fulfilled.

on 1/26/2009 As a person whose life has been personally affected by Mesothelioma, I really appreciate this article. After being diagnosed with this horrible disease, the two things that go through your mind are (1) What are my treatment options? and (2) What are my legal options? Well, this article answers number 2. In addition to using the information in this article, used http://www.mesotheliomaattorneys.ms (the web's largest database of mesothelioma attorneys) to locate a lawyer near me.
Mesothelioma is truly a tragic experience to go through - not only dies it affect the person diagnosed but the entire family. Victims are truly blessed to have the government on their side when it comes to these court rulings.

on 12/13/2008 Having lived on a working naval shipyard and living in several houses insulated with asbestos, and now being married to an HVAC/Sheetmetal installer, oh, and having worked for an asbestos abatement company, I am sure I have been exposed to my fair share of this stuff!
I know the abatement co. was very lax in their handling of friable asbestos! Mainly because I was the one responsible for all the fit tests of our employees and also resomnsible for getting the permits for dumping this stuff!
It scares the pants off of me!
