Things You'll Need:
- Internet access
-
Step 1
Consider purchasing a Sony Playstation 3. This gaming system includes excellent blu-ray disc playing capabilities, and is praised by the critics. This system also has online capabilities that allow you to play games online, and even download movies and video.
-
Step 2
Visit your local electronics store to see what is available. Ask a sales associate that is knowledgeable in blu-ray players to explain the differences between players and features, and why some players are more expensive than others.
-
Step 3
Look towards well-known brand names when selecting a blu-ray player. Sony is considered the leader in blu-ray technology, and other well-known brands also make a good product. You get what you pay for. Lesser-known brand might be cheaper, but may also be of lesser quality.
-
Step 4
Search online for product reviews when you narrow your selection to a few blu-ray players. The internet is a great resource to find reviews from both experts and consumers. Amazon.com is a great place to find non-biased consumer reviews (see below for a direct link).
-
Step 5
Understand that the crisp picture and quality sound that blu-ray discs are popular for are only evident when supported by high-quality equipment. If you have a HDTV with surround sound, you will definitely notice a difference between a blu-ray and a DVD. However, a blu-ray player will most likely not improve your media experience if you have a tube television.

on 1/31/2009 Kind of a generic instuction manual. You could insert anything into the instructions (replacing the word Blu-Ray) and it would be true.
BTW, the "cheap" Insignia player from BB has very good reviews.
Dn't write off all CRT TVs. There are still some good HD CRTs being used.
