Reading guitar tab is not hard. You just have to know guitar basics. Now, learning how to read tab FAST is another story. Here we are going to work on the basics of guitar tab.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, you need to physically have a guitar. Reading tab without a guitar would do you no good anyways :) Then, you want to look the guitar tab over.. just a quick glance.

  2. Step 2

Now, how to read guitar tab. Each "bar" of music contains 6 lines. These lines are numbered and named from the 6 strings on the guitar. {top string(thin)- E, A, D, G, B, E,} Each line represents the string on the guitar.

  3. Step 3

Each letter is the fret that you push the string down. For example, in the above picture, for the first three notes, you will hold down the thick E string on the 3rd fret then hold down the A string on the 2nd fret.

  4. Step 4

When you have multiple number together on top of each other, that is a chord that you strum. If the numbers spread out, then you play the notes singly.

  5. Step 5

There you go! It just takes a lot of practice, but you will get better!
