Things You'll Need:
- Communication
- Patience
-
Step 1
Check yourself, don't give your boss any reason to hover over you.
-
Step 2
Be proactive complete all your assignments on time and by priorities. If you are done with your assignments don't fiddle your fingers once your are done with your assignments go to your boss or email him/her to see if there is any additional tasks that needs to be done.
-
Step 3
If there is a problem, and no one seems to find a solution for it volunteer to assist in resolving the problem. If there was a mistake that you committed explain on how you learned from it and suggest on how you will resolve it from not happening again.
-
Step 4
Ask your boss, why are you being supervised closely? Suggest to your boss to give you a chance to complete an assignment on your own. Once the assignment is finished go over it with your boss, here you'll find out the pros and cons of you working on your own. Evaluate the assignment create a system that works best for both without being micromanage.
-
Step 5
Keep track of all your assignments and requests, daily and by email.
-
Step 6
You have tried all of the above and the outcome remains the same. Report your boss to the human resource department.

on 8/9/2009 The way I deal with micromanagers is I place priority on the strange things they obsess about. I do all the easy little things to make my work look good. I try very hard to stay out of the spotlight or on a manager's hit list.

on 3/6/2009 Wow, good concise advice. I like that. Sometimes micromanagers just need to do it themselves!!! Or maybe they're power freaks... either way, I agree with you.. keep them informed by email, stay ontop your own job, and ask them why they supervise you so closely. That would probably be hard to do,, but with tactful wording it could be a win win situation. Thanks.. 5*
