Mullets aren't just for the '80s, nor are they solely sported by those living in West Virginia anymore. You might want to consider this look for yourself.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sense of Humor
  • OPTIONAL: Ford F-150, 250, 350
  • Long hair (in the back)
  • Hair dresser with mullet experience
  1. Step 1
    ...party in the back

MUST HAVE CONFIDENCE: To pull off the mullet look, you absolutely have to have a lot of self confidence. This look is not for everyone, which is why it's so amazing when you spot one out in public.

  2. Step 2

Because you want to make this your "own" style, maybe you want it cropped tighter up top, say with a #2 clipper or something along those lines? The main thing is to keep it long in the back so as to maintain the full mullet integrity. After all, the whole point of the mullet is to be readily recognizable to others with your "business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back" look.

  3. Step 3

Some famous stars have sported the mullet such as Jesse or John Stamos in "Full House," Andre Agassi, Pat Cash, and Adam Sandler (in "The Wedding Singer"). If your bone structure is similar to these men, maybe you ought to consider the mullet the next time you are at the barber shop?

  4. Step 4

If, after getting the mullet and trying it out for several weeks, you find it's just not to your liking, no problem! There are special salons which specialize in mullet removal, as seen in the photo to the left. You can find places such as these on line or in your local phone book.

Tips & Warnings
  • Though this was primarily geared for men, women can also have this done, by all means. Martina Navratilova sported one for some time.

on 10/25/2009 This look actually originated with the Gauls when they would grow their hair for war and invade Rome. They called it the Maralletar (The "tar" is accented with a brute emphasis) The Italians made variations to it during the Renaissance. Changing it to Muelletara. The French ended up changing it to Emuellete and carried this over to the Americas. In the Ozarks an Albino African was spotted with this hairstyle and was asked by Billy Gibbons in ZZ top what the cool look was called. The man could only utter Mullet. So the trend eventually was told to other rockers that Gibbons knew and the trend caught in the 80's since. There you have it the anthology of the Mullet.

on 3/16/2009 Too funny - and yes, people still wear them. How can we miss the 80s if they never really go away?? H.B. CC
