Things You'll Need:
- Size 3 crochet hook
- Red and green yarn
- Scissors
- Pom pom (optional)

Step 1
What you needWith a size 3 crochet hook begin by creating 4 chains and connecting the 3rd chain to the first chain. Chain 3.

Step 2
Row oneRow 1: In each of the 4 chains that you first made, make 2 double crochets. When you get to the end of the row of 8 double crochets, connect to the first double crochet and chain 3.

Step 3
Row twoRow 2: In each of the 8 double crochets, make 1 double crochet until you get to the end of the row. Connect with the first double crochet and chain 3.

Step 4
Row threeRow 3: In the first double crochet, make 1 double crochet; in the next double crochet make 2 double crochets; repeat until you get to the end of the row. You should have a total of 12 double crochets. Chain 3.

Step 5
Rows four and fiveRows 4 - 5: Repeat step 4 until you have made a total of 5 rows. Connect and chain 3.

Step 6
Row sixIn each of the double crochets, make 1 double crochet. This is the 6th and last row for the hat. Connect and end your yarn, leaving about 1 1/2 inches to tie off the crochet hat.

Step 7
Cut abd completeWork the 1 1/2 inches of yarn through the hat to hide the ending yarn to make a clean look and secure the ending yarn.

Step 8
Row oneChain and row 1:To crochet a matching tiny little scarf, using a size 3 crochet hook, chain 8, turn and crochet 1 double crochet in each of the remaining 5 chains which creates a total of 6 double crochets. Chain 3 and turn.

Step 9
Rows two through twenty sixRow 2-26: Double crochet 1 in each of the double crochets in row 1. When you get to the end of the row, chain 3 and turn. Continue to crochet 1 double crochet in each doble crochet of previous row, chain 3 and turn, until you have a total of 26 rows.

Step 10
End scarfAfter you completed row 26, cut yarn leaving about an inch and work this yarn through the scarf to hide and to to secure the ending of the scarf.

Step 11
Add fringeNow you want to add a cute fringe to your little crochet scarf. Cut 8 pieces of yarn 2 1/2" long. One at a time, insert your crochet hook into one end of the scarf hook the loop that you made with the yarn (by folding it in half)and pull the loop back through the scarf. Pull the two ends of the piece of yarn to tighten. Repeat this process 4 times until you have evenly created the fringe. Repeat this whole process for the other end of the scarf using the remaining 4 pieces of yarn.

Step 12
Trim fringeUsing your fingers to hold the fringe taut and take a pair of scissors and trim the fringe evenly across. Repeat for the other end of the scarf.

on 12/21/2008 Adorable. I crochet a lot and always drawn to tiny projects like these. I've made the hat pattern as you suggest here - only I then decorated it to be a Christmas tree with little knots of varied colors. :) 5 stars
