Things You'll Need:
- Fertilizer and a broadcast or rotary spreader.
-
Step 1
Fertilize your lawn. Fertilize when your lawn is dry and water it in afterward. If you are using a fertilizer with a weed killer in it please follow the manufacturer's guidelines. For best results, use a rotary or broadcast spreader rather than a hand-held type unless your lawn is very small.
-
Step 2
Don't cut your grass too short. Try not to cut more than 1/3 rd of the grass height at one time for a greener lawn. Don't allow your grass to get too tall. Cut it regularly based on the time of the growing season.
-
Step 3
Water your lawn early in the day. For best results water your lawn before 7 am. Watering before the sun is high allows it to penetrate down rather than evaporating and your grass will be greener.
-
Step 4
Make sure your mower blade is sharp. If the tips of the grass seem dried up it might be time to sharpen your mower' s blade. This might be something you take to a professional to be done.
-
Step 5
Test you soil. Your local agricultural extension service, found in your telephone directory, is a good source to find out how to inexpensively test the soil in your lawn.
