People love their classic cars and if you bought a vehicle in New Jersey and lived in San Diego, you need to get that car safely across the country. Whether you call it auto transport or car shipping, you can do it cheaply and safely! Here's how!

1. Car shipping companies moves vehicles one of two ways. Inside or outside shipping. You need to decide which is best for you, but outside is far cheaper. 2. Consider saving money by bringing your new car to the closest major metropolitan area. If you live in a small town you are going to pay a whole lot more delivering it right to your door. Instead, ask to have it shipped to the nearest auto auction (which they deliver to as well) and save yourself some cash.

3. Be flexible with the dates of shipping. If you need your car within a week, you will definitely be paying premiums prices. Instead have a two or three week opening for the car delivery and see if you can add it to a load coming your direction (which will drastically drop the prices.)

4. Call around and get several quotes. Then pick the carrier you like and call them back to ask them to match the lowest quote you have. As with any business, finding customers is a number one concern so expect them to be flexible.

5. Contact a local used car dealer and see if they can assist you in getting a cheap rate by working on your behalf. It is the same distance, time and ride, but dealers get it for less. Discounts to dealers are substantial ($100 or more) so it is worth the look in the friends list to see if you have any car dealer friends.
