It's easy to use the versatile strawberry to make a wonderful, creamy sorbet that can be enjoyed year round. Sorbets are also a delicious, low fat alternative to ice cream.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice cream maker or ice cube trays.
  • Blender
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 pints strawberries.
  • Fresh mint for garnish.
  1. Step 1

Make a simple syrup: Place two cups of sugar and one cup of water in a saucepan over medium heat. When the mixture just starts to boil, remove from heat and cool completely. Place the simple syrup in refrigerator for one hour. The syrup will be a base ingredient for many sorbet recipes.

  2. Step 2

Prepare the strawberries: Wash and hull each strawberry. To hull the strawberries, simply remove the top and the white part of the strawberry. Place hulled strawberries in a blender and puree. Place the strawberries in the refrigerator for one hour.

  3. Step 3

Pour the strawberries in the ice cream maker. I use the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker, but there are many brands out there. Once the ice cream maker is turned on, slowly add about 3/4 of the simple syrup. Allow the mixture to blend completely, then taste as the sorbet begins to form. You will need to add more of the simple syrup depending on the sweetness of the strawberries and your personal preference. It takes about thirty minutes in the ice cream maker before the strawberry sorbet is complete.

  4. Step 4

Once your strawberry sorbet is complete, you can serve immediately, or freeze for later use. If freezing, place the strawberry sorbet in a plastic container until needed.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy your strawberry sorbet with a garnish of fresh mint.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the bowl of the ice cream maker is cold. I keep mine in the freezer until needed.
  • When storing the sorbet, only use a plastic container. The sorbet will stick to the sides of a glass container, making it hard to serve.
  • Place plastic wrap over the top of the sorbet before placing the lid over the container. This will keep the sorbet from freezing too hard.
