Use Aromatherapy & Essential Oils for Acne

Topical application of two common essential oils, lavender and tea tree oil, has been shown in several studies to be as effective in treating acne as benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is the most commonly prescribed drug used for treating acne. If you prefer a natural approach, follow these tips for acne treatment.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Add 12 drops of tea tree oil to 1/2 ounce of water and apply to the skin wherever acne is a problem 2-3 times per day.

  2. Step 2

Add 12 drops of lavender oil to 1/2 ounce of water and apply to the skin wherever acne is a problem or acne scars are a problem once per day. Lavender oil will aid the skin in healing.

  3. Step 3

Do not use oils full-strength on the skin. Always dilute them first with water or a carrier oil. In treatment of acne, water is recommended for diluting because other oils may aggravate the acne. Do not use oil near the eyes and wash hands immediately after application to avoid transferring the oils to sensitive areas.
