Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Turn off everything you don't need. Do you use Wi Fi? Do you use Bluetooth? If not, go into your settings menu and shut these items down. If you ever need to use either of these, it is easy to go back in and turn them back on.
-
Step 2
Go easy on the brightness! Setting the slider a little less than halfway should be enough for most people. The lower you go the better, and while you're at it set your auto-lock to 1 minute so you don't accidently leave your phone on.
-
Step 3
Turn off "Push". Go into your settings menu and select "fetch new data". Move the "Push" slider to "Off". Set your fetch to an hour, or manual if you really want to run lean on battery. The consequences of a manual setting is that you will have to check your E-mail manually instead of seeing the little red numbers pop up on the home screen. Setting this to a minute amount will check your mail in those intervals. Keep in mind that your phone uses battery every time it checks for mail---- the less often, the better for your battery!
-
Step 4
If you can help it, make your calls from an area of good reception. Making calls in areas of poor reception requires more battery power.

on 6/29/2009 Thanks for the tips but nothing seems to really help the horrible battery life very much. The new 3GS was supposed to have improved battery life but I think it's even worse than the 3G!
