This is a traditional Italian food that is also enjoyed in many different cultures. The lightly battered mozzarella fries up nicely, making it ideal for an appetizer or on top of a heaping pile of spaghetti.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 large ball of mozerella cheese
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • italian style bread crumbs or plain
  • 1 cup of flour
  • salt
  • pepper
  • vegetable oil
  1. Step 1

First, lets talk about the cheese. This type of mozzarella will come in a vacumm packed plastic wrapper or it will come in a plastic bag with water surrounding it. You can find this type of mozzarella in just about every grocery store nowadays, but it may be with the gourmet cheese. There is an entire price range worth of it to experiment with. It doesn't really matter which type you use, although the vacuumed pack may be better for frying because of the less amount of water.

  2. Step 2

Drain and pat the mozzarella ball dry with paper towels and cut into 1/2 inch thick slices.

  3. Step 3

Now we are going to create an assembly line. Mix the flour, salt, and pepper on a plate and place first in line. Place your bowl of beaten eggs second in this line, then place the breadcrumbs on another plate, and place it third in line.

  4. Step 4

Get your frying oil ready. about 365 degrees.

  5. Step 5

Now take your mozzarella slices, one at a time, and coat it in the flour, then the egg, then the breadcrumbs, then fry until they become lightly brown. Let the oil drain out of them on paper towels for five minutes and then serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't burn yourself on the oil or oven. It's not fun for anyone.

on 3/30/2009 Frying mozzarella has nothing to do with Italian cooking let alone "traditional" Italian cooking. If an Italian tried to do this, he would never find the right mozzarella and end up with a bowl of water after frying. However, if you need to try, use string cheese. If you can't find it, use the cheapest, hardest mozzarella you can find.
