If you are extremely tight on your budget, but you need a car, you might be able to get cars for under 500 dollars. These aren’t going to be the greatest cars, but hopefully with a little work, they can get your where you need to go. The following will show you how to buy cars under 500 dollars.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Auctions some times have a really cheap car. The cars at auctions are repossessed cars where the owner was unable to make the payment. It also could have been impounded and is going to auction for that reason. It is also possible that the car is here because it was donated to charity. Car auction will not likely offer these cars under 500 dollars because they tend to be in better condition than others.

  2. Step 2

Street corners in rural areas are a great place to get a really cheap car. These tend to be peoples old cars that they just need to unload. In some cases, they don’t hardly run, but on occasion, you will find a really cheap car that will actually get you around.

  3. Step 3

A friend or family member might be able to give you a really cheap car if you only have five hundred dollars to spend. Maybe they have one parked that they were planning to use as a trade in, but the dealership wouldn’t take it. There are lots of reasons, just put it out there and see what happens.

  4. Step 4

Classifieds are a great place to get a really cheap car. There are classifieds such as Auto-Trader where you are not likely to get a really cheap car because you have to pay to place the ad. There are others such as Penny Saver or Craigslist which do offer free ad placement so you can pick up a really cheap car from these places. Often they have them for 500 dollars or even less.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is not always easy to find a really cheap car. You may have to look for many months to get something.
  • Be careful when buying a really cheap car. A five hundred dollar car may not run very well or for very long and is not likely to meet state smog requirements.
