Step 1
The room needs to be cozy and welcoming with comfortable yet durable furniture. This is not the place for precious furniture or a table that requires a beverage coaster. This is a hang out space where you can put your feet up on the table or lay down on the sofa. An upholstered ottoman would be a nice touch.
-
Step 2
Consider putting a small desk in your keeping room so children can do homework in there. You can also use the desk to store cookbooks.
-
Step 3
Add books, magazines, and newspapers to the space. This would be a perfect place to have coffee and read the newspaper in the morning or relax with a glass of wine and your favorite book in the evening. Don't forget the reading lamp for proper lighting.
-
Step 4
This is not a place for a TV. It should be a family gathering area where people who are preparing dinner or cleaning up after dinner can converse with others without them getting in the way. An inconspicuous music source in this room would be nice.
-
Step 5
Add candles, family photos, pillows, a throw blanket, and other items that encourage you to get comfortable.
