How to Make Money Selling Ancient Coins

If you have them, you can make good money selling ancient coins. Ancient coins are usually coins that come from the Greek, Roman, Byzantine era, as well as other ancient times. If you are interested in selling your ancient coins, please follow the steps below so you can start to make money!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing to do is really ask yourself if you really want to start selling your ancient coins. Although you may be strapped for money, having ancient coins can be a great way to hold on to a piece of history and pass it on to future generations in your family. Take a look at your ancient coins and make sure you are okay with parting with them before you make any money.

  2. Step 2

Next, you'll want to find out how much your coins may be worth. you can do this by going to a coin dealer, or by looking at prices online (see ancient coin resources below). you're doing this just to get an idea of what your ancient coins may be worth.

  3. Step 3
Note: This coin is professionally graded, but is not an ancient coin.
Note: This coin is professionally graded, but is not an ancient coin.

I would recommend getting the particular coins that you want to sell graded by a profession coin grading service (see resources below). This will ensure any buyers that your coin is indeed genuine, and you will be able to make more money by doing so. Note that when selling coins on Ebay, your ancient coins MUST be professionally graded.

  4. Step 4

Now on to how to make the money. You can sell your coins directly to a coin dealer, over craigslist, on Ebay, in your own online store, or by joining a coin forum and advertising your coins on there. Pictures always help make your coin sell better and for more money. Good luck!

Tips & Warnings
  • You should never try to make your coins look cleaner or brighter by using soaps and or liquids. This can damage the coin and compromise it's value tremendously. If you want to clean them, I would recommend only using a dry paint brush and gently brushing off any dust from your ancient coins.
  • Some of your coins, although they make look like ancient coins, may be fake, so be aware and don't be disappointed if a reputable coin dealer tells you they are fake. You may want to take the coin to another dealer to get confirmation.
  • Stay away from selling your ancient coins at a pawn shop. You will be ripped off and losing potentially thousands of dollars.
