Pediatric Reflexology may help with bedwetting, ear aches, constipation, diarrhea, colic, teething and other childhood illnesses. Some Reflexologists specialize in seeing children in their office, others will offer a consult and recommend self-help techniques. Since children respond quickly to Reflexology sessions a course of treatment may be shorter than what an adult would need.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An appointment with a Reflexologist
  • Toys or books to entertain the child during his session
  1. Step 1

If your child is old enough to understand verbal instructions you can begin to explain what a Reflexologist does in a session. Reassure him that the Reflexologist does not tickle or hurt the feet (or hands and ears).

  2. Step 2

Practice rubbing your child's feet at home without tickling him or her. Introduce this at bedtime routines, after bath or before a nap so it is part of a relaxing time.

  3. Step 3

Go with your child for the session and stay with him during the entire treatment. Bring his favorite coloring book, story book or toy to keep him occupied.

  4. Step 4

Ask the Reflexologist to show you some points to work on at home for self-help Reflexology. Your child's Reflexologist can probably recommend a book or two from her library to help you understand the reflex locations and techniques.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider taking an introduction to Reflexology course at the local community education center. Or setup a private tutorial with your Reflexologist to learn even more tips to use at home between sessions.
  • Reflexology is not a replacement for medical care, diagnostics or treatments. Be sure to take your child to his pediatrician for health concerns or complaints.
