How to Eat Healthy in College

Many college students find that they come back home having gained a few pounds. Eating a healthy diet is extremely vital to successful and healthy college years.

  1. Step 1

    College students often find themselves up very late. The majority of junk-food consumption occurs during these hours. Eating late at night before bed is the worst thing you could do being that it is your metabolisms slowest period of the day. Therefore, steer clear of sweets during late night hours (pizza, candy, soda, etc).

  2. Step 2

    Planters

    If you are going to eat late at night consume foods high in vitamins and protein while low in bad fat. Nuts are a great source of protein and contain monounsaturated fats that lower cholesterol levels. Planters sells pre-packaged peanuts in a perfect size for a midnight, study snack. It is never a bad time of day to eat fruits and vegetables so these would be suitable choices as well.

    Bananas
     
    Bananas

    The best way to start your school days is again with foods high in vitamins and protein. I recommend eating two to three eggs along with a banana. Banana's jump start your metabolism are a great source of potassium and vitamins.

    Salad
     
    Salad

    For lunch consume a good amount of carbs for energy. Have some pasta along with some cheddar cheese to get some dairy. Whole grain pasta would is suggested but not all colleges provide this. Also, have a salad containing a variety of lettuces along with some cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, and perhaps a hardboiled egg.

    Eat fruits such as apples and bananas for snacks. They will provide the energy to get through the day as well as some sugar.

    For dinner try and eat a solid meal. A good meal will control your hunger for a longer period of time and keep you away from the sweets later on. Fish is a great main course as well is grilled chicken. Along with your main course eat some steamed vegetables and perhaps another salad.

  7. Step 7

    This diet will keep you from gaining unnecessary weight. It will also give you the energy necessary to get through your day and your late night study sessions. At the same time sickness runs rampant throughout colleges and eating right will help shield you from colds and keep your immune system up.

  • Eat brain foods before tests such as fish
  • Stay away from sweets
  • Try not to eat before bed
  • Stay away from all the fried food
