How to Get Free Music for the iPod
As of 2011, an iPod could serve as an Internet surfer, a video camera, a reading device, a camera, and a music player. The music element included "Cover Flow," which placed a photo on the iPod screen of the album being played. It did not come with free music, but free music is available through some other sources.

Visit the main page of the iTunes Store. While single songs cost between 99 cents and $1.29 as of 2011, the site also offers a sample of free music every week. New music is released on Tuesdays.

The website iT's Free Downloads tracks free iTunes downloads, including music from some of the international iTunes stores.

Amazon.com has limited free music downloads for regular mp3 players as well as iPods. Go the menu at the Amazon mp3 Download Page. Click on the option for Free Songs and Special Deals. You can also go to the mp3 download section and look for free music from a particular artist.

Some specialized sites offer free downloads that transfer to iPods. Classical music is available at mFiles, and kids music is available through Free Kids Music. Free kids stories are available at Storynory.
