Step 1
Lower the student car insurance by obtaining a B average or better. A parent may not have a ton of control over this, but certainly being bribed with a drivers license might be the kick in the pants your teen needs to excel in school. If they can’t get a B average, then maybe they don’t need to drive.
-
Step 2
Take a drivers’ education course. This is actually being required in many states in order to obtain a drivers license in the first place, however it still will help to get a lower policy; the idea being that a trained driver is less likely to get into an accident.
-
Step 3
In many cases girls will get lower premiums on student car insurance. The reason is simply that girls get in fewer accidents statistically. It has nothing to do with discrimination.
-
Step 4
Get your teen an older car. Older cars are cheaper to replace and therefore cost less to insure. If your student car insurance is too high, you could consider purchasing an old beater for your teenager. In addition to lowering your premium, it will also keep your teen driver humble.
-
Step 5
Increase deductible. If you are confident in the skills of your teenage driver in spite of statistics, this might be a great avenue to lower your student car insurance. A higher deductible means more cash out of pocket in case of an accident, so as long as the accident is not the teens fault, there is no negative repercussions for this action.
-
Step 6
Remove unnecessary policy add-ons. Certain things may be able to be removed from the policy such as roadside assistance. Any of these things will make a difference in lowering your student car insurance.
