Dogs love a tasty peanut butter doggie treat!

Good dog treats can be expensive. Here is a very economical way to make a fantastic dog snack. Homemade dog cookies are also very natural.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup natural peanut buttter
  1. Step 1

Start with the dry ingredients. Put the the oats and flour into a large bowl and mix well. Then add the oil and water, followed by the peanut butter. Mix well again.

Note: Dogs really love olive oil, and it's good for their coats. Use olive oil in place of vegetable oil if you like.

  2. Step 2

Now for the fun part. Transfer the dough to a large flat surface. Make sure to put down a light dusting of flour to keep the dough from sticking. Now, roll the dough out into a log, about 1 - 2 inches in thickness (you can divide the dough in 1/2 or quarters to make multiple smaller logs). Cover or wrap log(s)in plastic and place in the refrigerator. You will be cutting this 'log' into dog size snacks next.

Note: Alternately, form small dough balls with your hand, then flatten them in the palm of your hand to make a small dog 'biscuit'. Place on baking sheet.

  3. Step 3

One hour later, slice the log (roll) into pieces about 1/2 - 1 inch long. Bake in the oven at 300 degrees for about 45 minutes so they will set. Some light browning should occur. Let the doggie cookies cool, and treat your dog(s)!

Tips & Warnings
  • Double or even triple this recipe to make a large batch.
  • Hand out to other dog owners for a special treat to share.
  • Pet and play with your dog daily, for your health and theirs.
  • Your dough should be fairly dry and firm. Add more water or peanut butter if it is too dry. Add more flour or oats if to liquidy.
  • These doggie treats are not to take the place of a well rounded dog meal.
