If you work from home, or simply need the ease of sending and receiving faxes online with your computer, the process is very simple.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer
  • An email address
  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

Find a company that provides online fax services. Some examples are gotfreefax.com, faxzero.com, and metrofax.com (links in resource section below).

  2. Step 2

Use your laptop or desktop computer and your regular email account to send a fax. No fax machine or phone is necessary.

  3. Step 3

Use the body portion of your email to compose your cover letter.

  4. Step 4

The document that you want to send as a fax will be sent with this cover letter email as an email attachment. Attach as you would any other document.

  5. Step 5

Follow the directions for your online fax company when filling out the "to" portion of your email.

  6. Step 6

Click "send" in your computer's email program to send the fax to your recipient.

  7. Step 7

To receive faxes on your computer, all you need is an account with an online fax company and an email address. You are assigned a unique fax number. When someone needs to send you a fax, just give them this unique fax number. Faxes are delivered to your computer, directly to your own email address. Faxes are usually in .PDF form (download Adobe Reader for free at www.adobe.com, in order to be able to read a .PDF file).
