Donate Hair to a Charity
Donate Hair to a Charity

If you have long hair that you are planning to have cut short consider donating it to a charity. Here are step by step directions on how to donate hair to a charity.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

There sre several charities that take hair donations. Decide what charity to donate your hair to. Some to consider: Locks of Love which gives wigs to children under the age of 17 with cancer or alopecia. Wigs For Kids which provides wigs to cancer patients and Pantene which provides wigs for women who are cancer patients. (see resources for links).

  2. Step 2

Check the hair requirements at the websites for how to donate hair to a charity. Each site has different specifications. Pantene requires 8 inches of hair; Locks of Love 10 inches. Permed and colored hair is allowed by Locks of Love but bleached is not.

  3. Step 3

Arrange to get your hair cut. Many salons will cut hair for free that is being donated to a charity.

  4. Step 4

Make sure your hair is clean, dry and cut in a ponytail. Follow the directions when you donate hair to a charity to make sure your hair is cut correctly, so the charity can use it.

  5. Step 5

Package the hair in a baggie and send it to the address the charity provides. Some salons will ship the hair for you. You can donate hair to a charity whenever your hair grows to the correct length.
