This is how you scream like a metal/screamo star easily without screwing yourself up.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Determination, practice, and loud music to cover your own voice.
  1. Step 1

Listen to screaming music loud enough to tune your own voice out. Try not to start out using your throat too much, practice with the growl that is easy to pull off with just throat. The music tuning yourself out helps you to adjust your voice automatically without hearing it, so you can scream more easily and naturally.

  2. Step 2

After you get good at the growl, start using more air and forcing the growl up into your nasal cavity rather than tightening your throat, practice this for a while. This gives the screams different pitches, and distinguishes it from a growl quite well.

  3. Step 3

Finally, start using your whole abdominal region with what you've learned so far, and do major diaphragm work. Now you can constrict the throat to get the more gutteral sound and assist with scream type, but don't overdo it, you can tell when it's bad if you start to get hoarse. Keep practicing and you will become a screaming master.

Tips & Warnings
  • DON'T strain, it's not a good idea.
  • Don't use throat early on, unless you wanna sound like a dead horse the rest of your life.
  • Take very deep breaths, making sure you use your diaphragm, not your lungs.
  • Not following these steps, will more than likely cause you potential vocal damage.
  • You won't instantly be as good as a metal star, so don't expect it. Try too hard and vocal damage is also inevitable.
