How to Unlock Your Wii

After holiday season, you may get a wii as a gift, or you got a wii long time before. Like every one like to try new things, and do the things most people can't do. You may interesting to have you wii have more functions. You may think why I can't have my wii more useful other than play wii game. Like my last eHow article. You may got some ideal to have your wii play DVD, here is a summary to tell you how to unlock wii step by step.

Things You'll Need:

• wii
• wii game:The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or mod chip
• internet, computer with SD card reader.

1. The first you should get this game for unlock wii:The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. You can find this game at most game store. I bought a used one work just fine. Or you can rent online, and it should work like others. You don't need to keep this game in most case, but it is a good game why just keep, and you can help out your friends.
   
   By any chance if you have modchip in your wii, you don't need this game.
   
   Install modchip is around $140, and this game just $49 for new one, and $35 for used one. Rent for $9/month. It is up to you to pick one to start.

2. You need a SD card less than 2G, and computer with SD card reader. PC will just fine to work on SD card, but Mac user may need to find a way to format SD card to FAT16. After you have SD card read in the card reader.
   
   Go to wiibrew main page (google it, you will find at the first line).
   You need several files from here, and all of them are free, and no sign up required.
   
   All files are in RAR form, so you will need to unzip them.
   
   The first file is Twinlight hack, get the new version, and unzip into SD card. ( after Unzip you wii find a private folder, which is Save game files).
   The twinlight hack website have very clear introduction for choosing the save game files regarding the Game version.

3. Play the game like normal at first time. You will have the game save a file into your wii.
   And go to wii menu and find your save game in your wii (Twinlight hack also have very clear introduction at this part). Delete your game save from wii.
   
   Put your SD card, which have Twinlight hack save game in private folder.
   
   Go to wii menu, than Data manager at SD card. Your wii will show up three game save files. I use US Game, so I click US, and click yes to copy save game into your wii. Sometimes the copy fail you may need to try different twinlight hack version. The new one not work for me, I use old one and it work.

4. Now your are have way to go.
   Take out your SD card fro wii, and go wiibrew again, find an application call Homebrew chanel, and down load, unzip to SD card. You will find a boot.doi file at SD card root direction. Put back your SD card into wii, and put your (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) to play.
   When you begin your game, you will need to choose a save game dependent on your Game version. by click the right game save, you will need to talk to a person in the game, and screen become black with several options.
   
   choose boot from SD card.
   
   your wii will install the Homebrew chanel from the SD card
   
   After it done, you will find a new chanel on your wii, and it is the door for your other functions on the wii.

5. If you need to play DVD like I DVD player, you need install DVDX from the twinligh hack, or Homebrew chanel, but current the new updat from for wii are block DVDx, So you need to wait new DVDX installer. To avoid block, don't updat your wii through internet. So you will still can install DVDx, and it also need for play back up game too.

Tips & Warnings

• the application I wrote here are not causing big problem to my wii, if you find your wii not responding, just shut the power and turn on again.
• Some application you find at wiibrew site may damage your wii, so use at your own risk.
