1
Heat four strips of salt pork in the microwave on a plate. Cook the pork until all the grease comes out of it, about 1 minute per slice.
-
2
Pour the grease into a small bowl through a sieve to cool. The sieve catches any bits and pieces of bacon and cleans out the fat.
-
3
Mix five drops of liquid smoke into the grease. This adds a smoky flavor to the pork, reminiscent of bacon.
-
4
Pour Epsom salts into a jar to half-way, about 1 cup of salt.
-
5
Pour 1/2 cup of Borax on top of the salt. This is a powdered soap and also acts as an anti-caking ingredient.
-
6
Pour the grease into the jar on top of the salts.
-
7
Pour another 1/2 cup of Epsom salts on top of this grease.
-
8
Place lid on the jar and shake thoroughly to mix.
-
9
Check the salts in the jar. If they seem too greasy, add more salts and Borax and shake to mix.
