How to Plan A Roaring 20's or Flapper Theme Party
The end of World War I brought change to American culture. Prohibition, which made the sale of alcohol illegal, motivated Americans to turn to speakeasies -- unlawful nightclubs that enabled liquor consumption. Young women began wearing shorter skirts and more makeup, introducing the image of the flapper. Jazz music became a prominent form of entertainment. The economy prospered, science and technology advanced and creative artists produced memorable works in literature, dance, music and film. Relive the thriving Jazz Age era with a 1920s-themed party. Does this Spark an idea?

3
Serve food and drinks reminiscent of the Jazz Age era. Due to Italian-Americans opening speakeasies, the American population was exposed to a plethora of pasta dishes. A buffet-style party accommodates pasta well, allowing guests to serve their own plates with a variety of sauces and side dishes. Designate theme-related names to each dish, such as "Prohibition Pasta" and "Speakeasy Sauce." Assign theme-related names to drinks as well, such as "Flapper Fizz" for soda and "Jazz Age Juice" for juice.
-
4
Play jazz music from notable artists such as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Encourage guests to dance the Charleston or Black Bottom, popular dances of the 1920s.
-
5
Host theme-related activities, such as costume and dance contests. Award prizes to the winners. Prizes might include jazz records, feathered headbands and decks of cards. Prize items might also be given as party favors.
