Things You'll Need:
- Crock Pot
- Roast
- Beef Bullion Cubes
- Pepper
-
Step 1
Thaw your pot roast the night before you want to make it. Thawing allows you to put your crock pot on low. The longer you cook your roast and the lower the temperature you use, the more tender your roast will be when dinner time arrives.
-
Step 2
Add a cup of water to the crock pot. Unwrap your pot roast and put it inside your crock pot. Add several beef bullion cubes, leaving at least two on top of the roast to add extra flavor to the meat itself.
-
Step 3
Add a bag of baby carrots and a few pealed and sliced potatoes. They'll cook up perfectly, leaving you with a hearty one pot meal.
-
Step 4
Place the lid on your crock pot and turn it on low. Allow the roast to simmer for at least eight hours.
-
Step 5
When dinner time arrives, use a slotted spoon to remove the carrots and potatoes. Place them in a serving dish and set on the table.
-
Step 6
Put the roast on a cutting board and allow it to rest. Pour the remaining liquid into a sauce pan and place it on the stove.
-
Step 7
Mix up thickening by whisking together corn starch and cold milk. Bring the drippings in your sauce pan to a boil, whisking constantly so it doesn't burn. Once it's boiling, slowly drizzle in your thickening until your gravy is at the thickness you desire. Pour into a serving bowl and put it on the table.
-
Step 8
Return to your roast and carve it up. Don't be surprised if your roast just falls apart, it will be that tender. This will soon become one of your favorite crock pot recipes.

on 12/8/2008 Chicken cubes are a good idea for those on a budget. I also use onion soup/dip mix as a seasoning. Baby carrots save a lot of time on scraping and cutting up large carrots, plus that size packet fits in the crock pot well. Great idea for those of us on the go, thanks.
