Things You'll Need:
- baby
- comfortable place to sit
- patience-this may or may not take time
- persistance
-
Step 1
For one, make sure you are in a comfortable position, and sitting with your baby. Put him in a cradle position with him facing you. It's up to you if you have your shirt on or off to start.
-
Step 2
When you notice your baby moving his lips or making a suckling face, that is the motion he'll use to grasp breastfeeding. When you are preparing to attempt to nurse, gently take your breas* and stroke your baby's mouth with your n*pple. Your baby is very likely to open his mouth.
-
Step 3
If he opens his mouth, good. If he opens his mouth very, very wide, attempt to put your n*pple in. If his lips cover at least 3/4 of your aer*la, you are latched correctly. This will not hurt your brea*t at all.
-
Step 4
It shouldn't hurt. If you can see most or all of your aer*ola, gently slide your finger into the bottom side, or lower part of his mouth, and pull your breas* off. If he seems hungry and is still calm, repeat step 2 and 3.
-
Step 5
This is only one position and there are many. It can be incredibly difficult in the beginning. Be patient with your self and your baby. You are both learning. If you successfully get a good latch, let him nurse as long as he wants. If not, try again, and again unless he gets upset.
