Getting the best credit card is a matter of choosing the card that best suits your needs and interests. The credit card companies make huge profits off of their cardholders, so they offer some pretty great deals. But not all cards are created equal.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

To get the best credit card, you'll want to first determine which type of credit card feature is most appealing. Features can be divided into three categories: rewards, interest rates, and credit limits.

  2. Step 2

Awards. Free travel awards can be the most lucrative. There are also cash back cards offering as much as 1.5% cash back on your purchases. Awards can include discounts on new car purchases or even donations to your favorite charity. Only consider getting a card for the rewards if you plan on paying it off every month. The awards cards usually have higher interest rates than those that don’t.

  3. Step 3

Interest Rates. Look at both the introductory rate, as well as the permanent rate that begins after the introductory rate expires. Introductory rates can last for a year or more though, so consider transferring your balance to another low rate card before the end of the low rate term.

  4. Step 4

High credit limit. Having a high limit credit card can offer you financial security if you find yourself unemployed or needing to pay for an emergency expense or short term investment. High credit limit cards can be found by searching on “High Credit Limit credit cards”. You won’t know in advance what your limit will be, so apply for more than one. Close all but a couple of them. Never look at your credit card as a means of carrying long-term debt.

  5. Step 5

Customized credit cards. For a distinctive credit card, how about a photo of your child, your pet, or your company logo?

  6. Step 6

Once you’ve decided what type of credit card feature is most important to you, look for the best offers in that category. The link below provides a review of the cards with the best benefits.
