Many people have Installment Agreements with the IRS. This means that they pay a certain amount of money in back taxes every month or agreed upon term. It is convenient to be able to pay back taxes online. This is just one of the services that the Internal Revenue Service offers as part of their online web site. The following are the steps necessary to pay back taxes online.

  1. Step 1

    Go to https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/ or see the resources section below for a link.

  2. Step 2

    The IRS is constantly developing their site in order to make it easier for those of us who need these resources to make use of them without having to spend hours on the phone or weeks waiting on responses to letter.

  3. Step 3

    The IRS uses EFTPS or ‘Electronic Federal Tax Payment System’ in order to allow you to pay back taxes online. For security purposes all transactions are both convenient as well as save and secure. You do not have to worry about your personal information being stolen from this site.

  4. Step 4

    When you enter the site, you will need to register. Click the ‘Enrollment’ Tab. It should default to ‘New Taxpayer Enroller’. May sure you are not registering as a business.

  5. Step 5

    Read through the information on this page so you are clear on the agreement you are about to make. Click the next tab at the bottom of the page.

  6. Step 6

    Once you have enrolled, if you want to pay back taxes online, click the link that says ‘Payments’ and login.

  7. Step 7

    From this screen it is a simple process to locate your debt and pay the based on the agreed upon back tax amount with the IRS.

  • Make sure to have all your personal information, Social Security and other tax information available if you are going to attempt to pay back taxes online.
