Make a Clay Pot Reindeer Craft
Make a Clay Pot Reindeer Craft

The following craft is a quick, easy and relatively mess free creation. It is especially good because it can really be done with just about any age group with the right amount of assistance. Makes a cute candy or treat holder or add to your holiday table as place card holders or party favors.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • All supplies can be found at your local craft store and are per reindeer:
  • a terra-cotta clay pot, 3"
  • two googly eyes
  • one pom pom for a nose (red or glittery)
  • Brown craft foam
  • scissors
  • elmers glue or craft glue
  • a marker
  • assorted wrapped chocolates or other treats
  1. Step 1

Have each child/person write their name on the bottom of the pot. Lie the pot on its side and dab three small dots of glue in the places for the eyes and nose. Do not use too much glue or the decorations tend to slide and fall off! Hold the glued items in place for a moment to let set slightly before standing pot upright.

  2. Step 2

Have each child cut out two antler shapes from the craft foam. These do not have to be perfect - it is easiest for you to free hand an antler shape (think very small, crooked handprint) and let the kids cut out your shape. Or, you could do a form beforehand and let the kids trace it and cut it out themselves.

  3. Step 3

Using a small amount of glue, attach the antlers to the back of the pot - they can be attached on the inside or outside of the pot, whatever the crafter chooses. Let dry for a couple of minutes while holding antlers in place.

  4. Step 4

Once all items are dry, add a handful of treats. You can let the child fill their own with their own holiday treasures, or leave it filled for them at their place at the holiday dinner table.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use too much glue! Some crafters may get easily frustrated by the holding and setting process of the glueing portion of this craft, but if you use a small amount of glue, it is apt to go more quickly. I have done this craft with ages ranging from 2 through 10 and it usually works just fine with a little help!
