Things You'll Need:

  • the desire to take control of your situation and make it a happy Christmas
  1. Step 1

If you find yourself alone at Christmas offer to volunteer at a soup kitchen that will be serving meals to others on Christmas. That "feel good" feeling that comes from helping others can override any inclination to feel sorry for yourself or your own situation.

  2. Step 2

Take a small gift or homemade treat to the people working at a local hospital. Let them know someone appreciates their dedication.

  3. Step 3

Find someone in an assisted living complex that doesn't have any family to visit them on Christmas and pay them a visit. By doing this, neither of you will be alone on Christmas Day.

  4. Step 4

If you know you are going to be alone on Christmas Day make preparations ahead of time to make it a day of self-pampering. Attend a special event. Go to a really nice restaurant for a special meal. Do something that is special to you.

  5. Step 5

Simply enjoy the solitude. Don't dwell on the concept of loneliness but use this day as a gift. There are many ways to enjoy a day without any obligations such as read a good book, watch a movie, begin a meditation routine, or simply get some much deserved rest. Be creative with the use of a day alone. Look at it from a positive point of view.
