Make Chocolate Curls
Make Chocolate Curls

Looking for a way to wow your guests or spruce up that cake? This is a easy way to make a chocolatey impression!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 squares semisweet dark chocolate, melted
  • 6 oz white chocolate, melted
  • butter
  • baking sheets or a marble cutting board
  • metal offset spatula
  • wide, flat metal spatula
  • wooden spoon
  • double boiler or microwave
  1. Step 1

Pour melted dark chocolate onto a baking sheet or marble cutting board and smooth to a 1/4" thickness using the offset spatula. Place it in the refrigerator until it is almost set.

  2. Step 2

Melt the white chocolate. If the chocolate seizes while melting, add a small amount of butter to it. Spread the white chocolate onto a baking sheet or a marble cutting board and smooth it to a 1/4" thickness with an offset spatula. Place it in the refrigerator until it is almost set.

  3. Step 3

Pull the chocolate out of the refigerator one at a time. Using a wide spatula, push against the cooled chocolate and scrape it up to create curls and ruffles. Refrigerate the scrapings until you are ready to use them.

  4. Step 4

To use them, place the scrapings on a cake starting from the edge and moving towards the center. Alternate the dark and white chocolate, overlapping the layers. You can also use these shavings to create other desserts, such as a "bird's nest" or sticks for a 3 Little Pigs cake.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a marble cutting board when working with chocolate. Marble stays cold longer, and will keep the chocolate from melting.
  • Avoid touching the scrapings with your hands. The heat from your hands will cause the chocolate to melt.
