Want to have the Christmas spirit but don't know how? Been staring at those folks who are constantly singing Christmas carols as they string Christmas lights all over their houses, fences, and even their dog house? Are you wondering what on earth makes them have so much Christmas cheer? Have you felt like growling at the next person who rings a Salvation Army bell or walks around passing out freshly baked Christmas cookies, but secretly wished you could feel the what they feel? Learn how to have the holiday spirit!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • notebook
  • pen
  1. Step 1

Open your notebook and begin writing. You don't have to be a writer to do this. Your handwriting doesn't have to be pristine. Just write. Draw a line down the center of the page. At the top of the column, write Pros on one side and Cons on the other. This is an old tried-and-tested method to help solve life's issues. It works for this, too.

  2. Step 2

The pros and cons you're going to think about are this: What are the pros of having the holiday spirit and what are the cons. I'm sure some of the pros will be something like "you'd be happier, healthier, have more fun, attend more Christmas events, etc.". On the cons side, you might write something like "makes me miserable, keeps me at home alone, makes me miss out on all the fun".

  3. Step 3

There must be a reason you don't have Christmas spirit. Did you experience negativity from adults during the holidays while you were growing up? If not, and you have perfectly cheerful Christmas memories, is it possible that life itself - your work, relationships, your health - have brought your inner "Scrooge" to the surface? Has life made you bitter? Stolen the Christmas magic from your heart?

  4. Step 4

Once you search your heart to find the reasoning behind your lack of Christmas spirit, you'll be able to find it again. Never had it? No worries!

  5. Step 5

Now, turn the page in your notebook and write down all the things you're thankful for (or should be!) and all the blessings in your life. Don't know where to start? Let me help you. Do you have your health, a home, healthy children or pets? Are your parents alive, or your siblings? Do you have a job you love? A vehicle? A "special someone" in your life? Can you walk, talk, hear, sing, write, paint...? What are all the things you've been blessed with?

  6. Step 6

Now, imagine your life without them. No family, no home, no vehicle, no job, no pets, no children, no (insert what's important to you here).

  7. Step 7

The way you have the Christmas spirit is to look inside yourself and realize what is truly important in your life - and be thankful for it. Without what's dearest to your heart, the holiday just isn't the same. If you've lost sight of what's most important to you and what your dreams were, you might just end up being a Scrooge. Don't let that happen to you! Put a song in your heart and have Christmas spirit!

  8. Step 8

Found it yet? Good. Now go bake some Christmas cookies, put up some Christmas lights, crank up the Christmas music, and donate some toys, food, or money to local shelters, missions, or soup kitchens. That's the spirit! (Be sure to check the Resources below for further Christmas inspiration.)

Tips & Warnings
  • Cherish every holiday with your loved ones. Make them memorable.
  • Be careful, if you find too much Christmas spirit you might just end up like one of those Salvation Army bell ringers!
