Training a Dog is easy and fun.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • You
  • A dog
  1. Step 1

Dogs loved to be rubbed for praise. I don't personally use treats to get my dog to do tricks, but every dog and owner is different.

  2. Step 2

When ever my dog wanted me to rub his tummy I would bend down and rub his tummy. Then I got the idea to started telling him to give me a high five, and I would grab his paw and tap it to my hand. I did that every day for weeks.

  3. Step 3

Again I would bend down to rub his tummy and I would say, "High five" and tap his paw on my hand. Then I would say, "Good Boy" in a high pitch voice. Dogs know praise by the pitch of your voice too.

  4. Step 4

Finally when he understood high five well enough. I taught him to jump up on to legs and give me the a high five like a person. Repetition and praise is a major key for any pet training.

  5. Step 5

My family love to get a High Five from our dog Brownie.

Tips & Warnings
  • High pitch voice is a good form of praise for your dog.
  • Rubbing is another form of praise.
  • Treats work the best, but are not always needed.
  • I am not a professional pet trainer but I have trained a lot of pets.

on 1/15/2009 I'll let my son read this. It'll be better than when he tried to teach our mini doxie to jump off the ironing board. Thanx!
