THE PERFECT CURVE BALL
THE PERFECT CURVE BALL

learning the fundamentals about throwing and changing the speed of a slicing baseball.( the curve ball)

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • new baseball with high laces.
  • A clear relaxed mind , with a willing to learn.
  1. Step 1

The most important thing to consider when learning how to throw a curve ball is the students AGE!!!!! High school age players are a good starting point. 13 years old or younger is a dangerous point to start throwing curve balls. Curve ball throwing puts alot of strain on youngsters elbows ,tissues and muscles. Starting the wrong throwing techniques could damage a player's body permanently.

  2. Step 2

after being able to throw a fast ball at will for strike after strike at a fast speed, the curve comes into play. Movement and placement of the ball is key to any pitchers success. The word 2 seam and 4 seam fast ball means just that. A player holds the base ball across either the 2 0r 4 seams to create some kind of whipping movement. ( throwing 100% )

  3. Step 3

The curve ball is thrown by placing your thumb under the ball and your index and middle finger across the two seams (same as fastball) the huge difference is you must snap your wrist to create the moving motion. Most curve balls should break or move low and away from the batter. A hanging curve is just the opposite ,it breaks to late .
This is caused by not snapping your wrist enough and not throwing 100%

Tips & Warnings
  • must have same arm motion whatever pitch you throw.
  • mix in curve ball to your arsonal of pitches
  • think about pulling down the strings attached to your window blinds (hard) , this is the perfect motion for throwing a curve ball.
  • TRYING TO THROW A CURVE BALL AT LITTLE LEAGUE LEVEL OR YOUNGER CAN CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO A CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT.
