Changing a tire and those lug nuts just won't loosen? Try this.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lug wrench. Sturdy shoes would help.
  1. Step 1

Your arms don't have the strength to turn that lug wrench? Use your foot and body weight to put a lot more force on loosening those tight lug nuts.
Place the lug wrench on the lug nut with the lug wrench parallel to the ground. Put your foot on the lug wrench, on the left side. Bear your weight on the lug wrench. If it still doesn't turn, bounce on the lug wrench. If it still doesn't loosen, get someone heavier, or two people to place a foot on the lug wrench and push down.

  2. Step 2

When it comes time to tighten the lug nuts, a 100 pound (45 kg) person, bearing their weight on the lug wrench (to the right side), one foot (30 cm) from the lug nut, will provide about the correct amount of tightness to the lug nut. A 150 pound (70 kg) person would place a foot 8 inches (20 cm) from the lug nut, on the lug wrench.

  3. Step 3

Later, have a mechanic check the tightness of the lug nuts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wearing sturdy shoes, and having a good sense of balance, will make this techniques easier.
  • Use care that your foot doesn't slip from the lug wrench and bark your shin.
