Step 1
Go to SnowDays at http://www.popularfront.com/snowdays/ (see clickable link below). Allow a few seconds for the site to open.
-
Step 2
Snowdays websiteGet oriented by clicking on the white snow falling in the scene on your computer. Each one will open into a snowflake design that someone created. Many will have messages in them. They come from all over the U.S. and the world (Hungary, Italy, Australia, etc.).
-
Step 3
You can respond to the message in a snowflake by clicking on the orange RESPOND button. If you see a particularly lovely design, put a compliment on it. You can even print out a snowflake that you like.
-
Step 4
If you see a really marvelous design, you can search for other flakes by the same artist. Remember their name and location, then click on FIND-A-FLAKE. Put the name and location in and hit search. All the flakes made by that person will start to fall.
-
Step 5
Now that you see what others are doing, make your own flake. Just click on CREATE-YOUR-OWN-SNOWFLAKE. The site folds the paper so it's ready for you to cut out your design (click and drag with your mouse). A preview of the finished flake shows on the left, so you can see how each cut turns out.
-
Step 6
If you make a mistake, click on UNDO. If it gets messy, click RESET and start over fresh. Each flake you make is unique. Once you are satisfied with the flake, click on DONE.
-
Step 7
Next it asks for your name and location, message (optional), and email address. No one sees your email address, but you get a notice when anyone comments on the flake. If you don't want to bother with that, just leave the email line blank. Click on ADD.
-
Step 8
It then asks if you want to send it to friends. Add their email addresses and click SEND or choose NO THANKS. Watch the falling snow, and right away, the flake you designed appears with an arrow saying YOUR FLAKE.
-
Step 9
Advanced snowflakers use special techniques to create bubble effects, flashing and to cut figural designs into their snowflakes. To learn how to do these, join the Yahoo Group for Snowflakers (link below). Also visit Mr. X's Tips and Tricks webpage where this master snowflaker gives step-by-step instructions for some of his magical flakes (link below).
