How to save money doing your own oil change.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1) You will need oil filter for the car .
  • 2)Oil for the car.(check the owner's manuel to see how may quarts of oil the car will take.
  • 3)Oil bucket to catch old oil coming out of car .
  • 3) You will need a basic ratchet set to remove drain plug .
  1. Step 1

    Open hood on car .
Take oil cap and put it on the latch were the hood will close .(This is so that when the oil change is done and you close the hood. This prevents the hood from closing so that you do not forget to put the oil cap back on the motor when done doing oil change.)
Now slide under car and u will see an oil pan . The oil pan will have a oil drain plug in it . Use one of the ratchet that will fit the drain plug . Turn the drain counter clock wise (lefty loosy righty tighty) to loosen drain plug . Take drain plug out let oil pour out into drain bucket .
Now when oil is draining remove oil filter . That should be on the side of the motor or by oil pan . Remove the oil filter the same way you removed the oil drain plug .(Very important make sure the old oil filter gasket is not stuck on the motor .If it is just peal off the oil gasket. Other wise you could double gasket the old oil filter gasket with the new oil filter gasket and it will be a mess when you start the car up.)
Now put the new oil filter on car turning it clock wise or to the right . When tighten the oil filter just turn it hand tight or nice and snug.
Now do the same with the oil drain plug (screw in by hand first) Then tighten with the ratchet .
Now slide from under car and also remove the oil drain bucket .

  2. Step 2

Look at owner book to see how many quarts of oil you need to add to the car engine. Add the right amount of oil to motor as told in the owners manual . Slowly pour oil the in the top of motor, were the oil cap was.
After putting the wright amount of oil in the car ,put oil cap back on motor
Start car up for about 15 seconds ,then shut off.

  3. Step 3

Pull oil dip stick out of car (That should be on the front of motor.)
Use A paper towel and wipe the oil dip stick clean .
Put back were oil dip stick goes and pull back out again .
On the dip stick it will show you were the level the oil should be.
If it is good you are done .If it under a little add 1/4 of a quart of oil and recheck oil again .
That's how easy it is to change the oil in a car .
