Make a Christmas potholder for your kitchen or for a friend.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Preparing pattren
    Preparing pattren

    Fold a piece of newspaper 9 1/2 inches by 7 3/4 inches into quarters. Trim away dark area to round corners. Copy onto file folder and cut out.

  2. Step 2
    Assemble the backing
    Assemble the backing

    Use cardboard pattern to cut and assemble in order: 1 ironing board cover piece (right side down), 1 batting piece, 1 towel piece 1 batting piece.

  3. Step 3

    Prepare the top by sewing together four 5 inch Christmas squares. Place the cardboard pattern on top matching the seams with the fold lines and pin. Cut out top.

  4. Step 4

    Place Christmas top and ironing board cover together matching right sides. Pin and sew at 5/8 inch leaving a 4 inch opening at the top. Turn right side out.

  5. Step 5

    Add a 5 inch loop of sewn together bias tape to the top of potholder and pin seam closed.

  6. Step 6
    Top Stitching
    Top Stitching

    Top stitch 1/4 inch from the edge. Add additional top stitching if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Press the potholder when finished
  • Make a set, alternating the position of the Christmas squares
  • Before turning the potholder right side out check seams to make sure both the Christmas top AND the ironing board backing are sewn securely.
