Things You'll Need:
- A female russian dwarf hamster
- A male russian dwarf hamster
- A cage to keep the two in
- A cage for the babies
- Homes ready for the babies
-
Step 1
The hamsters need to be introduced first if they haven't been already. Make sure they are not from the same litter. A younger female can be introduced to an older male but not the other way around. The female must be around 3-6 months to start breeding and the male 2-3 months old.
-
Step 2
To introduce them, swap them into each others cages so they can pick up each others sceant. Then swap them back again. When you think they are ready put them together with something dividing them so they can smell and see each other but just not touch.
-
Step 3
Try putting them in a cage with no ones scent in it or put the female in the males cage, never the other way around because the female may become territorial. If they start fighting just remove them and try again later.
-
Step 4
They should begin the breeding process. if there is a little fighting this is normal. Once they get tired with this and stop, it is time to put the male back into his cage, unless you want them to have more babies in which case you leave the male in until you decide you no longer want them to breed.
