Some recipes call for the egg white and yolk to be separated. With this method, you can separate the egg white and yolk without using any special tools.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Egg
  • Spoon or fork
  • 2 small bowls
  1. Step 1

Tap on the egg with a spoon or fork to crack it.

  2. Step 2

Tap around the egg in a line until you have a single crack all the way around the egg. Make the crack off center so that one half of the egg is bigger than the other half.

  3. Step 3

Remove the top without breaking it.

  4. Step 4

Hold the top of the egg next to the bottom and start pouring the egg white out into a small bowl.

  5. Step 5

Use the top of the egg to catch the egg yolk when it slides forward. Gently shake the top of the egg containing the yolk to help separate any of the egg white that is hanging on. The last bit of egg white can be stubborn; you can use the spoon or fork to help remove it.

  6. Step 6

Place the seperated egg yolk into another bowl.

Tips & Warnings
  • Separate the egg yolk and white into a different bowl than the one containing your other ingredients or separate them before adding other ingredients. This way, if the yolk accidentally breaks or falls in, you won’t have to start completely over.
