Step 1

Before you start making earnings on the internet I suggest you create separate email accounts for the various ways you will be making money online. I created one for Surveys and Forums, Affiliate Programs, Mystery Shopping and Web Trafficking/Social Bookmarking information. This will be a time saver and prevent you from overlooking important emails. Some of your email accounts will also need to be accessed more frequently then others and you won't have to scroll through hundreds of emails to prioritize.
Step 2

Next I created a basic database. I used Microsoft Access, but you can use whatever software you prefer or a web based database. In my database I set up a list of sites I had joined with their addresses logged, my passwords and my payment history. I also left a note section for any additional survey information I may need for long term surveys and forums. I created a similar account in Access for blog, bookmarking and link submission/referral sites. I have this information logged in to make self promotion easier.I then created a database for all of my Affiliate account link information and banner html and saved that in Front Page for later use as needed. Now earning will be organized and easy.
Step 3

Join, Join, Join....I found a website where a band was supplementing their income through Surveys, Forums and Mystery Shopping. They only listed sites that they had received payments from and with a little research on Yahoo and Google I found that all their links were credible and they had a good reputation for payment. So I joined several survey sites. I decided that I would focus on one type of earning method at a time and surveys were my first choice. Most of these sites pay with checks, PayPal, Amazon e-gift certificates, and through Department Store gift certificates. Having a PayPal account is key and adding a PayPal debit card is a wise solution to have quick access to your earnings.
Step 4

Once I had several sites going. I started filling out surveys and I found that if I took the time to respond to most of them - I started getting larger paying offers and a lot of products trials. I have had many forum offers and some pay over $100.00. So be patient it's worth the time and effort. I started a system of cashing out every $20.00 per website. With cash - checks take between 4 to 6 weeks to arrive and the gift cards take about the same amount of time. The sites that pay with Amazon, other e-certificates and PayPal tend to be in your email or PayPal account within a few days. Many of the survey sites look for teens and children to join in the fun and it's a great way for them to make money and also learn about saving as their income accrues.
Step 5

I now moved on to paid forums, Mystery Shopping and joining every affiliate program the survey sites had to offer. I got my silver certification for Mystery Shopping and was able to get my foot in the door because of the experience I received through some of the larger survey offers. Now that I was involving affiliate programs as a way to make even more additional income I needed to work on self promotion to create a passive income network that would be running its self in the background as I continued on with my earning adventures. I start to blog about the success I had with surveys and to try to help people bring in additional income from their homes. As I set up blogs Adsense money was now an option and I was able to post banner and links for my affiliate progams and create more passive income. At this point I also joined several more survey sites and product trail programs.
Step 6

To get the most of free promotion on the web I suggest joining several blog sites like Hubpages and write interesting content, make friends and spread the word. Joining sites like Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon you can direct a lot of traffic flow to you and on Twitter you can post updates by the minute if you want to. I am a member of linkreferral.com and this drives additional views to some of the many web pages I have now created. Squidoo.com is probably the most useful networking site that I have joined as of yet. On Squidoo.com you can build free web pages (lenses) on any topic of choice and get income from Adsense, Amazon, Ebay, CafePress and several other modules you can add to the site and there are no restriction to posting affliate adds. This site can be used to target all your traffic towards your survey affiliates and add addition money makers through Share A Sale and other affiliate programs. You can build as many pages as you like...sell arts, crafts and ebooks through this site and increase your earnings once again...what I love most about this website is that part of the earnings the site makes goes to well known charities and you also have the freedom to donate a portion of your proceeds to charity. I love that I can make money and give back at the same time.
Step 7

Now that I had a steady flow of income coming in I wanted to start seeing just how much my efforts were improving my income and get the most from my earnings. I opened a savings account that I deposited my survey and affiliate checks into. This account now was a way for me to pool money and to pay credit card debts. I set up a PayPal debit card and this card became my gas card and made those high gas prices a little easier to take because wasn't having to use my work pay check (work for non-profit). I used my Amazon.com e-certs for gift buying and this is now my holiday fund account making it easier to spoil the people I love. Finally I would save up points form survey and cash out with gift cards for movie theaters, dining, shopping and this became a way to have fun and entertainment paid for. I also consider all the freebies like free pet food, laundry detergent, movie screenings, food items, shampoo/lotion/soap from surveys and Mystery Shopping to be extra $$$$ It saves me on household items and it feels like Christmas with packages always arriving. So my payment formula is... job - mortgage/utilities, surveys/affiliates - credit debts, Amazon - holiday fund and gifts, gift certs - entertainment, products - household purchases. I hope that anyone struggling to make ends meet tries some of the methods I've used. I have not made millions, but life is a heck of a lot better now and I wish the same for everyone else
