Select a Paint Color for Your Ceiling
Select a Paint Color for Your Ceiling

Many homes come with ceilings that are white. If you would like to personalize your home, you can paint your ceilings a color. This is especially important if you have crown moldings in order to showcase your home's architecture.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you have already selected a paint for your walls, you can simply look at the paint selector strip with your wall paint on it, then select a color that is 2 shades lighter or 2 shades darker for the ceiling.

  2. Step 2

If you want to be bold, consider using a chocolate brown, black, or metallic ceiling in a special room. This technique is rather daring and should probably only be used in one or two special rooms such as the dining room, powder bath, or master bedroom.

  3. Step 3

If you do not want to emphasize your ceiling too much, you can just use a light khaki. The khaki will create a slightly more cozy room than a plain white.

Tips & Warnings
  • When selecting a paint sheen, most people prefer a flat sheen for the ceiling. A flat paint hides drywall imperfections better than a glossy paint.
  • Consider using a no VOC paint so you do not pollute your inside air.
  • Do not paint your smoke detectors unless they are specifically made to be able to be painted. A painted smoke detector may not work as expected.
